I see your point and I agree with you [and I know it would not work] as I do have some names for email and development purposes as well, but there are still people out there who just register a name and only want to sell it if someone in the future wants such a name... It's a market, but at the same time it can make your day really bad to see such a name registered with no real content and with only a link to Sedo or a similar domain auction site...it's sad sometimes - even my name is already registered and just a parking page and I could use it right away if I would own it... :(

ICANN or whovever could never pull domains names away from individuals for non-use though, as they'd piss off a lot of big companies. The small business which I work for is only a $50million company and we own over 100 domain names - maybe half are developed and all have development plans which will be rolled out in the next 2-3 years. A buddy of mine at a much bigger company says they have nearly 2000 domains for similar purposes (or to make sure a competitor can't use it).

Also, a lot of people buy the domains to use just for email and never put a website on there. That's especially common with URLs which are actual person's names. Stuff like "me@myname.com" or whatever.

Since it's never going to happen, I'm pretty happy to have the .CO option available as an alternative to get those nice keyword or short names. I grabbed a couple right when they were released... including my kids first names.

Thanks for the comment RamHost. It's nice to read a comment from a hosting company :) Looking forward to the new stuff from your company in the future. Good luck and keep the service on such a high level as it is [if not higher] :)

Thanks for the comprehensive review :)

Regarding the reboots, a few of our older hardware nodes do that from time to time (particularly in Kansas City - major upgrades at that location forthcoming) - our newer nodes don't have that issue however and eventually all our older servers will be getting newer, more stable hardware to solve that issue (as well as improve redundancy).

Regarding OpenVZ, we're also currently testing KVM (Kernel Virtual Machine) and we expect we will be offering KVM VPS's with a limited beta program starting sometime later this year. They will be priced similarly to our current OpenVZ plans.

PS: One of our hidden links: real-time uptime of all our servers: http://www.ramhost.us/uptime.php

I'm currently checking them out too. I'm more interested what the catch is? Why free. It's the last thing I expected from a company like themselves.

What have your experiences been so far?

I understand your frustration. I am at the same company and my VPS has been hacked back when they were hostlatch due to some openvz issue [I suppose as my VPS has been configure only to accept traffic from my IP...]. Hopefully it was not a big loss and you will be fine and restore it somehow. Have a nice day and a great weekend!
