You may not even heard about it or know anything about it, but it really exists. It is called reseller hosting and it is the topic of today’s article. Reseller hosting is based on the fact that company A has some spare space on their server and thus they decide to sell this and create a new product called the “Reseller hosting plan”. They offer their customers a set amount of bandwidth and web storage.

The customer who buys this kind of hosting plan can use this and sell it to his own customers. It is a very simple scheme. I have lots of web space on my severs and as I really can not afford it to be empty I will sell it to someone and maybe this person will be bale to find his own customers and sell the space to them. I get the money from my customer and he [possibly] gets some money from his own customers, too. If he does not find enough customers – it does not matter. It is his business opportunity not mine. And here is where it starts to be interesting.

Reseller hosting customers…

But the catch here is at the customers side. You are searching for a quality hosting and on your way you have to know and understand the different terms and kinds of hosting providers there exist. It is not always about big or small companies with real data-centers with servers, but sometimes you even can buy from some kind of company which only re-sells the space and bandwidth of a bigger company.

The company is only a reseller and they are also only customers of a hosting company. It is not bad, but you need to understand if you run into some kind of problem, that the re-seller will need to contact the company behind the scene to get some of the bigger problems solved! And this might even take some time [depending on the support times of the hosting company you have bought the plan from and the support level of the company they bought the reseller package from].

My advisory

While there is nothing bad about buying from a reseller it is always more secure to buy from the source directly. You might pay a little bit more, but it will give you the extra layer of security. It is for the kind of people who just need to feel safe during their whole stay at a hosting company.

[ad#Adsense360]

The reseller hosting option is great too. It can give you a better price and sometimes even a better level of hosting service and experience. It just depends on the people behind the web hosting company. This offer is more for the experienced and patient ones amongst us. I would feel perfectly OK on a reseller hosting plan, but you need to know what a company can and can’t offer to you in the web hosting world.

Have a nice day and see you next time!

One small note from my self :

NEVER CLICK ON EMAIL ATTACHMENTS OR LINKS IN EMAIL AS YOU CAN BE NEVER SURE WHO SENT IT TO YOU. EVEN IF IT IS SENT FROM YOUR FRIENDS EMAIL ADDRESS!!!

!!!!!A SMALL DIFFERENCE IN A LINK CAN LEAD TO BIG TROUBLE AND LOSS!!!!!

I know it is easy to say, but trust me you are much safer without clicking on links. Even from friends as malicious software can just sent “blind” emails to contacts from your friends ADDRES BOOK.

Hi there! It’s been a long time since the last article in the Weekly News category! But this week has just started and thus you can look forward to some more news to come. From now on the weekly news category will get it’s Monday and Friday article every week!

Here are the news or important staff I want to share!

A.Webhostingtalk.com

1. For the last two days over 27 new posting in webhostigntalk.com’s shared hosting offers section! Some of them advertised as a 50% off. You should check them out!

2. At the same forum you can find 18 new VPS offers & 17 new Reseller offers!

Why I mention those? Because the forum is a good place to start your web hosting search. Companies advertise there and do not pay for the adverts so only the market decides who wins and who fails – in contrast to some other forums/review sites… And you can always ask someone on the forum about their experience with a particular company!

B. For those of you who still don’t believe in Twitter. Just subscribe to your hosting providers Twitter account [if they have one] and follow them. You might get more news from the company this way and this might help you if you experience any downtime as companies [the good ones] would Tweet about their problems to help their customers!

C. If you are searching for a cheap domain registrar than try to look at name.com or namecheap.com as they both have some interesting coupons to offers this month. .Com, .ME, .Net can be yours for something around $9+/-. Check their Twitter accounts for promo codes. Don’t forget it’s the end of March so the codes expire soon… .

D. The real big news -> Icethunder.net is finally back online and writing! Have a nice day!

This one should be a relax post. I don’t wanna throw at you any phrases from web hosting, or related to web hosting at all. It’s Friday and people should start to think about the weekend and thus why should I scary you with work at this time?

As you might notice in the recent days I have started a small shift of attention to my Twitter account. I have started to post some of the clues and hints I have discussed here at my blog on Twitter, but I also posted there something more, too. It’s always very advantageous to follow my twitter account to don’t miss any of my ideas I might get in the middle of a day . Some of them will turn into standalone article at Icethunder.net, but some might not and thus you could miss something.

Rofl, I started to think about another nice hint, that you might find useful in the middle of this article A very nice way t find out how good a hosting company is – mainly how responsive they are, could be to follow them trough Twitter. This way you can see how many Tweets they actually did and at the same time you will see how helpful they are, how they deal with customers and much more. It’s only up to you how good you are at reading “between the lines.” You could start to follow 5-10 companies and make Twitter one of the criteries for your final decision.

I have started to follow many hosting companies from the time I have joined Twitter and it gives me a nice insight. I know about their issues they post. I know about special offers they tweet about and even you can see the interaction with customers who ask questions or have some kind of a problem and ask the company trough Twitter.

[ad#Adsense250]

My advice for today would be: Go out and sign up for a Twitter account and try to follow some of your hosting companies. You don’t even need to be a member of Twitter. Just subscribe for the RSS Twitter feed of the hosting company you want to follow!

Hopefully I helped you even with this post and you will have an easier life on your way to your great web host! Have a nice day and don’t forget to leave a comment if you want to say something about your experience with Twitter and hosting companies

I wrote an article about Hostgator and their “coupon code” policy. I think you know what it was about, but a small recapitulation. They offer a 20% off during the whole year, without any real offer in between. I think this approach just is not very creative. You get your customers, because people like discounts, but you still miss people who wait for something really much interesting.

I, for example, like to go around the web and search. I do not buy anything that’s cheap, but I like to see really special offers. The kind you see and you want to buy immediately, because it is an offer you know will not come back very soon! At the same time I realize, that providing your customers with a really reliable service costs money. And if your company really wants to do a good job, than the service costs even more. And thus the only way for you to cover the costs is to set the pricing in a good way.

As an owner of a hosting company you need to look on different things

the support people

the servers [ + other hardware]

bandwidth/hard disk capacity

…and more

and all this costs money. The only way to cover the costs, as I said in the previous paragraph, is to set the prices just right. But the competition is though so it is always good to offer a special coupon. And this is where you have to make the choice. You need to decided how much you are willing to give to your customers. And, at the same time, you know you can not go too high, because you need to cover the costs.

And here is the place where I see the space for different strategies. And as we can see there are many different strategies out in the hosting world. I can not mention all of them. Some companies just set a very low price and do not bother with any special offers, some set a low price and do give some coupon codes [well, the question is than how they make money at all...] and than there are the established players and strategies.

I would like to give some of my opinions and thought s about these strategies. I do not even know if they call them strategies, but for me, as a student of Economics, they pretty look like strategies. I will even use my own names for them

The same present during the whole year

Typically this is where Hostgator really fits. They offer 20% off during the whole year and just change the theme of their web site. But they are not the only company with this strategy. Cirtexhosting is the next one I have decided to include into this article. They offer a 50% off during the whole year, but this still looks more interesting than the 20% off from Hostgator.

[ad#Adsense360]

Big presents, that change…Better take this or you will miss…just kidding the offer continues!

This category is a really nice one, but you never know how you will end.You might be surprised how you can gain a lot or loose a lot just in a few clicks. This strategy let’s it look like this offer is the best out there and it will not return, but you might be surprised the next month when you see the same offer telling the same thing.

Two years ago I have used a “special offer” of 1and1.com They offered 6 months for free and than the next 6 months for the regular price of $4.99. A pretty nice offer. Last summer they changed their pricing, but they still stay with this “strategy” – 6months free… .

Big events presents…

This category is my favorite one. You may find tons of special offers during the whole year, but do you know when are people willing to pay most and look for offers the most? Well, you got it – during special days like Christmas, New Year etc. I can say at least two names that come to my mind. Name.com and Namecheap.com and some other domain name registrars use this strategy. They offer special prices during these days and you can bet there is no better offer on the market The next time it’s Christmas be sure to look at their web pages.

This article comes to it’s end , but I would like to know your own point of view. What kind of offers do you like? Did you use any offers during the last Christmas? How did you like it?Just leave your response in the comments area Have a nice day!

I do not want to make you feel, that I do not like hostgator.com. I really like their plans and they all seem pretty good. I did not find too many bad reviews about this web host and the majority of the reviews I have read have been really positive. Even my favorite web hosting forum has tons of good posts about this host company. Even I wanted to sign up for a plan with them a year ago, but I changed my mind and read why.

Well, it is because they were not able to get my attention with a good offer. Under “offer” I mean a good coupon code with more than just 20% off the price. I know, that you need to pay to get a quality service, but sometimes to give your customers something extra pays off too. They offer 20% off during the whole year [at least what I have seen until now] and they lack any other special offers. It would be more interesting to see life coming into their “coupon river” and they could go beyond themselves and make a real offer, like 40% off for a limited amount of time… . That’s an offer!

Other big companies do this all the time. I know, that most of the time these companies do oversell, but I do not try to tell Hostgator to do the same. I just think it would be good to see some life from them in this “coupon” world, too. It would be nice to see this kind of offers at least during Christmas and not their usual “20% offer”. They just change the picture for a snowman and that’s all.

Offers are not here to get customer on low prices, but they should be a mean of getting attention from your current and possible customers. They should be a mean of making your current and future customers think you value them and are willing to give them something at least on important occasions [Christmas, New Year, Valentine's day, Birthday etc.].

[ad#Adsense360]

I see this post looks like I would be talking about Hostgator, but it is not true. It’s just that I have seen their “20% off” coupon today one too many times… . I am talking about any business out there and about customers, too. We [customers] should not think, that we deserve a special offer, because it is not a right. It is more a privilege. And companies should know how to value their customers at least on special occasions without the need to oversell. I think we will be happy with a good service for a reasonable price.

Do not hesitate to leave a response and your thoughts about this topic. What would you like to see – a 20% off during the whole year or only a few well timed offers on certain days of the year with bigger numbers on the coupons?

What a nice day it is today I thought to myself this morning after my morning routine finished. Hosting news site read, WHT visited and now I can go on to write my first “Weekly News” category article. In fact there might me more “Weekly News” articles in one week – the number depends on important things that might happen in the industry and around

In this new category I would like to bring the most interesting and most important news from the world of web hosting. You might know, that I specialize on Shared hosting so you should not look for VPS or Dedicated news for now. Although I might include news from this area as well.

This category will be not only about “news” because I am not that high in the rankings and I really do not have the connections with major hosting companies, but I would like to bring you news about “hottest offers”, “most up2date offers”, “recent problems [uptime/downtime" etc. as I will find out along the way on my morning routine.

This first article will be no exception and so let me start. If you do not see it it's 2010 and you should start moving fast as there are tons of "PROMO" codes out there! If you are like many people you most probably did not take advantage of the great special offers during Christmas 2009. You need to be satisfy yourself with just a new years offer or you can wait 'till next Christmas... . I would still recommend you to go with companies with history if you consider your project as an important one!

It's been a long time since hostgator started to offer UNLIMITED plans. Up until that time every one out there was talking about how "UNLIMITED" selling companies do not deliver what they offer and often place restrictions on the "UNLIMITED" thing... . Try to leave a comment and tell us how is the service at hostgator. Do you like it or did they change after they went to UNLIMITED?

Downtown host and Sharkspace still offer a 50% off. An interesting offer, but I did resist to use it [well I did not noticed it...], but they still might be great hosts. Anyone with experience with one of them? If so leave a comment!

1and1 came back this year with a “6 months for free and the next 6 months for$ 6.99/month” special. I did use this offer two years ago and stayed with them for two years, but now for $6.99? I do not know… .

I would say you should check WEB HOSTING TALK more regularly to find out many news shared hosting offers! There are tons of them right now!

Do not forget to leave any comments! Have a nice day!
