Who should use a paid hosting service?

Now we know what are people seeking when signing up for a  paid web hosting package. They want to get something back and this something I like to call “added value”. It’s the feeling you are getting back a real value for your money and no one is wasting your time and resources. Now I would like to tackle another question related to paid shared hosting. And mainly who should buy a paid hosting plan and when it’s not a very good idea to sign up for a free or paid plan ;)

When to go with a paid host?

Paid web hosting is not for free and we know this and thus when it’s the time when someone should go straight with a paid plan instead of a free one? Web sites are mainly build for presentation purposes. You, as a builder and administrator of a web site, want to present something to the world. You want to show off. You want to send a message saying what you think, sell, or think is important to send to the world.

And this is the right time you should start to ask yourself questions about how do you want it to look like… Do you want the web site to look really professional and on a good level? Or you just want a “for fun” web site with no real importance to you? Do you want to associate your trade mark, business or yourself with the domain name your site will use, or you just want a quick domain name to bring your web site quickly online? These are just a few questions you should definitely think about before going one or the other way. I have not come up with all possible questions and you are welcomed to provide some more you use when deciding between paid/free hosting for a certain project.

Looking professional matters!

To look professional really matters while trying to impress the online community. Professional does not mean boring design and plain not useful web sites. It means carrying about all the aspects of your web site even before you make your site public.

I can tell you, that there is nothing worse, than to try to bring an e.g. “marketing company” online and use a third level domain hosted at a free hosting company. Downtime, third level domain, limitations in web space and bandwidth are all problems you could face and these could hurt your business a lot!

If you are trying to run, or start a business web site, your new professional blog or you just want to stand out of the crowd and exhibit yourself and your knowledge or your voice, than the way to go is:

  • Buy a paid web hosting package
  • Buy a second level domain name [e.g. google.com is a second level domain name ;) ".com" is a TLD and google is a second level domain ;) ]
  • Use your domain name with your email [it looks good when you represent a company and send emails yourname@yourdomain.ocm]
  • Build a good looking and appropriate web site [but don't necessarily waste too much money for something someone could do better and cheaper ;) ]

Conclusion of who should use a paid hosting plan?

In my opinion a person who should use the services of a paid hosting company is someone with a good idea of what he wants to achieve, who is it’s intended audience and with passion for precision and professionalism. It’s someone who knows what he wants and wants to get a decent service for his money he spends on the hosting package.
