Web hosting tutorial – The basics I.

Welcome at Icethunder.net and especially in my Web hosting Guide series version 2.0. All the new things you can look forward to in this second version can be found in the INTRO article. As you can see in the headline of this second article this series starts in a different way, than the previous version. This version will be divided into smaller parts and those will be all devoted to a certain aspect of web hosting.

In this first sub-section I would like to take you trough the world of common hosting expressions and make them clear to you. I will try to explain them in the best way I can. Hopefully at the end of this first sub-section you will be able to understand a lot more than you do right now. This part should prepare you for the next section, but if your are already familiar with these expression it can also serve as a reminder and maybe you will find here something new, too.

When I first came to the Internet and tried to search for my very first hosting package I did not know anything about it. I did not know a single expression and so I did not know what to look for. I only knew, that I want to have my own web site on the Internet and that’s was all! Now I know, that it was stupid and I could save a lot money just by making some things different, than I did… . But that’s an another story and maybe I will include it in one of my next articles.

What was first? The chicken or the egg?

That’s a good question and it really illustrates what I want to make clear before you even start to look at the different expressions I will write and explain here! It’s nice to buy a hosting package, but the first thing you need to have [actually two things] is:

1,   You need to have your web site project already in your pocket– or you need to have an idea about it!

  1. The second condition is expressed in the first -> you need to have an idea about your project – you need to have an idea of how much of what ingredients you will need!

Choosing a hosting package is like cooking a meal. You know what you want to cook [a website hosted somewhere] so first of all you need to buy the ingredients [a hosting package]. And what you do before you buy the ingredients? You go and evaluate all the possible alternatives! And most important of all – you need to know what you really need and how much of it!

I am sorry for this INTRO, but I want to make sure you do not make any bad decisions! Always remember, that you need to know what you need for your project and only than go out evaluate the options and buy the right ones!!! Have a nice day!
