I have been surfing trough all the forums I am a member of recently and I did came to one conclusion. Many newbies start their search for a web host in the very same way. They use Google and other search engines and just try their luck by entering a certain keyword or phrase and hope Google will give them a good [the right] result.
It is pretty good to start your search in this way[many of us started this way], but as a newbie you need more than just a few results from Google. It’s not that Google does not bring you quality results, but Google brings you indexed and SEO adjusted results. And these results are many times not what you are looking for. Many companies just buy keywords from Google, or use clever SEO and thus get to the top results, although their service is not on the level of some other companies with not so good SEO or not such a big advertisement budget.
The other thing I have realized in the recent days was, that many people try to find a reliable host. And here we can see once again, that not always 1ST RESULT PAGE AT GOOGLE = BEST WEB HOST. Sometimes if you are lucky you will get a good level of service, but you should not only concentrate on searching for a web host and using keywords like “best host” “best web hosting” “the best hosting” etc., because there are so many “review” sites stating that certain companies are in the TOP 10… You might go to 3 or 5 review sites and see some companies on all of them, but do not consider this to be a good indicator, that this companies really belongs to the top… Affiliate links and direct support of review sites from hosting companies makes them the worst place to find real results [there might be some exceptions...]… Hosting companies pay them to place advertisement on their pages and for much more…. And one thing to remember – these sites are owned by one or two people and thus can’t deliver you any real independent point of view.

How to start your search for a hosting company.
The right place for you to go are different web hosting forums. It’s because there you can find tons of people and all of them have lots of experience, but most of all they have their own mind and voice. They can give you very good advice They know far more than a search trough Google… . They have experience Google will never have.
Remember:
- Use forums to ask questions
- After you have your list of possible hosts for you try to ask on a forum [like WEBHOSTINGTALK.COM etc.]
- If you are not sure about anything visit a hosting forum – register and ask questions you will always get an answer
- Try to ask yourself – why the same companies pop up on 10 different review sites in the TOP10 despite the fact there are hundreds of hosting companies out there?
I wanted you to make think about what you are doing. It’s great to search and put different search phrases into Google and other search engine, but it’s even more important to use your brain and ask people for advice! Don’t hesitate to ask on this blog, or on some hosting forum. You will always get a response and hopefully it will help you on your way. Have a nice day!
